Biography

KatieMetzger photo

Some of my favorite childhood memories are of tagging monarch butterflies and observing spotted salamander migrations at the Dawes Arboretum in Ohio. It feels very full circle to get to spend my days in an Arboretum once again.

My passion for the outdoors has driven many of my most influential life experiences, from studying tropical ecology in Ecuador to teaching natural history on Cape Cod to earning my master’s degree in Outdoor Education from the University of Edinburgh. I have been professionally involved in farming, landscaping, or gardening since 2015 and I am so excited to step into the realm of public horticulture for this stage of my career. I love that the Arnold Arboretum is free and open to the public and it’s truly a privilege to have the opportunity to work alongside so many talented and knowledgeable people caring for this special space.
