Entrance Goals

  • Expand and enhance planting areas inside and outside of Walter Street Gate
  • Open center gate to pedestrian access to create a more welcoming entrance
  • Improve light levels, sight lines, and viewsheds through selective pruning of yews along the carriage road
  • Add bench seating with views of the conifer collection
  • Realign Hemlock Hill Road to restore the historical curvature of the Olmsted design
  • Restore historic cobble gutters along the carriage road
  • Add bike parking and portable bathroom facilities
  • Work with City of Boston to improve Arboretum visitor parking and add ADA parking along Bussey Street
