Tree Mob: Insects Prefer Yellow with Director Ned Friedman
This is a members-only program. Not a member? Click here to join!
Certain flowers exhibit an amazing color-changing trick in the spring: newly opened flowers emerge with big splashes of yellow on their petals, which quickly change to red a day or two after opening. Ecologists believe this strategy helps steer pollinators towards those flowers with a greater need for pollination. Join Director Ned Friedman for a Tree Mob to explore this phenomenon in buckeyes and horse-chestnuts (Aesculus) where this color change is especially prominent.
