Medicinal Plants at the Arboretum
Join local Jamaica Plain herbalist Alex Klein for a medicinal plant walk at the Arboretum. The walk will cover medicinal plants in the Arboretum’s collection as well as the medicine of common local species growing spontaneously throughout the grounds. Attendees will learn some basic techniques to identify local species, safely and ethically gather these plants, and process them for use as medicine. In doing so, we will consider the role we can make for ourselves in our local ecology: not only what the plants can do for us, but what we can do for them.
Alex Klein runs his own clinical practice using primarily herbs he has gathered or grown himself. He also teaches classes throughout the year in the Boston area on plant related topics and runs a monthly herbalism program called the Puddingstone School.
