Tribute Tree Mob: Saying Goodbye to the Silver Maple

The towering silver maple on Meadow Road, once the tallest tree in the landscape, has reached the end of its time at the Arboretum. Before this beloved tree is taken down, join us for a Tree Mob to celebrate its life and learn about how the Arboretum makes difficult decisions around tree removal in order to protect visitors and keep the landscape healthy and vibrant. Keeper of the Living Collections Michael Dosmann and Manager of Horticulture Rachel Brinkman will lead the program, sharing their perspectives and expertise on this beautiful tree.

Accessibility: This mostly stationary tree mob will take place on the paved Meadow Road.

Audience: This program is geared towards adults.

Silver Maple on Meadow Road

By subway

Take the MBTA Orange Line to its southern end—Forest Hills. Exit through the door marked “Arnold Arboretum,” cross Washington Street, and walk up Arborway. Enter the Arboretum through Forest Hills Gate on your left and walk straight up the road for three minutes. At the intersection, turn right to walk down Meadow Road. Walk about 7 minutes down Meadow Road. The silver maple will be on your right.

By bus

Take the #39 bus to the Forest Hills MBTA station. Cross Washington Street and walk up Arborway to the Arboretum’s Forest Hills Gate on your left. Enter the gate and walk straight up the road for three minutes. At the intersection, turn right to walk down Meadow Road. Walk about 7 minutes down Meadow Road. The silver maple will be on your right.

By car

There is public parking available on Arborway, including six designated accessible spots. Arborway is about a 4 minute walk down Meadow Road from the silver maple.
