Tree Mob: Skunk Cabbage
This is a hybrid program, with on-site attendance limited to members only and online attendance open to the general public. Click here to join as a member.
It’s March and skunk cabbages are once again adding their skunk-y aroma to Arboretum wetlands! Join horticulturist Lindsay Davies to learn how these strange plants use thermogenesis to produce their own heat and lure in carrion-feeding pollinators with their putrid odor, before sinking back into the mud for the rest of the growing season.
This program will take place on a gravel path, but you may want to step off the path for a closer look so good footwear is encouraged! The off-path areas may be quite muddy.
Accessibility: This program will involve walking short distances on a crushed stone path.
Audience: This program is geared towards adults.
Inclement weather policy: Participants will be notified via email at least one day in advance if a program needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather, and will be notified by phone if a program must be cancelled with less one day’s notice. Click here to view our full inclement weather policy. If you have questions about the status of a program, please email publicprograms@arnarb.harvard.edu (inbox monitored on weekdays) or call the Visitor Center desk between 10:00am and 4:00pm at (617) 384-5209.
