Hickories Up Close
You may have seen the distinctive bark of the shagbark hickory in the Arboretum grounds, but that is just the tip of the hickory iceberg at the Arnold. Join Horticulturist Ryan Devlin for a walk in the hickory collection to learn about sand hickories, water hickories, bitternut hickories nutmeg hickories–even pecans, which are technically also hickories! Discover how to identify different hickory species, learn about their culinary and wood uses, and find out how the Arboretum plants and cultivates this unique genus.
