Location: Meet at Hunnewell Lecture Hall

Trees are highly sonorous entities. Not only do they generate sound when pumping water up their trunks and branches or serving as habitats for other species, but they can also receive and respond to sound waves! Artist, researcher, and educator Jacek Smolicki has captured these sounds in the Arboretum and in other environments, from the Pacific Coast rainforests to the Arctic Circle. Participants will start in the Hunnewell Lecture Hall to learn about acoustic ecology, then embark on a walk, listening to the sounds captured in the Arboretum and beyond. Please bring your own headphones (wired and over-the-ear are ideal).

This program will include a walk on paved paths and occasional grass and foliage. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

The program is limited to 18 participants. We ask that you only register if you are sure you will attend, and only register one person per form submission. This program involves walking over mulch paths and climbing moderate hills.

There is no visitor parking inside the Arboretum but street parking is available on Arborway.
