SUMMARY:Tree Mob: Beneficial Mites
DESCRIPTION:This is a members-only program. Not a member? Click here to join. \n\n\n\nHave you ever noticed the small tufts of hair found at the intersection of veins on a maple leaf? These structures\, called mite domatia\, provide shelter and protection for predatory mites\, which defend the plant against herbivores and pathogens in return. Join University of Michigan Postdoc and 2026 Carvão Awardee Marianne Azevedo Silva to learn about this mutualistic relationship and the research she is conducting on the mites themselves. \n\n\n\nAccessibility: This program may involve navigating mulch\, gravel\, and dirt paths. \n\n\n\nAudience: This members-only program is geared towards adults. \n\n\n\nInclement weather policy: Participants will be notified via email at least one day in advance if a program needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather\, and will be notified by phone if a program must be cancelled with less one day’s notice. Click here to view our full inclement weather policy. If you have questions about the status of a program\, please email publicprograms@arnarb.harvard.edu (inbox monitored on weekdays) or call the Visitor Center desk between 10:00am and 4:00pm at (617) 384-5209. \n\n\n\nImage credit: Robert Pemberton\, Charles Turner
