SUMMARY:Sustainability Spotlight: Irrigation
DESCRIPTION:This is a members-only program. Not a member? Click here to join. \n\n\n\nAs climate change leads to increased temperatures and extreme weather patterns\, drought is becoming more and more of a concern at the Arboretum. Staff have been working hard to install irrigation systems around the landscape since the record-breaking drought of 2016\, working to increase the resiliency of our collections to periods of drought and dry weather\, and this fall represents one of the biggest irrigation projects yet. Join Head of Operations and Project Management Danny Schissler and Head Operator Jed Romanowiz to learn how the Arboretum keeps trees watered in areas without irrigation\, the Arboretum’s plans for new irrigation installations\, and how all of these systems actually work. \n\n\n\nAccessibility: This program involves a short walk over level ground\, including pavement and mulch paths. \n\n\n\nAudience: This members-only program is geared towards adults. \n\n\n\nInclement weather policy: Participants will be notified via email at least one day in advance if a program needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather\, and will be notified by phone if a program must be cancelled with less one day’s notice. Click here to view our full inclement weather policy. If you have questions about the status of a program\, please email publicprograms@arnarb.harvard.edu (inbox monitored on weekdays) or call the Visitor Center desk between 10:00am and 4:00pm at (617) 384-5209.
