SUMMARY:Forest Bathing in the Lilacs
DESCRIPTION:This is a members-only program. Not a member? Click here to join. \n\n\n\nSlow down and awaken your senses on a guided sensory experience set in the Arboretum’s beautiful lilac collection. Forest Bathing\, inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku\, is a restorative sensory exploration that supports health and healing for all beings. From increased cerebral blood flow to stronger immune defenses\, come discover for yourself what happens when we unplug\, slow down and open our senses to notice more of our natural surroundings. All the prompts\, invitations\, sharing and ways of participating are optional and open to interpretation. \n\n\n\nThis program meets at Forest Hills Gate. If you are driving\, you can park on Arborway before you reach Forest Hills Gate (see parking map). Take care not to pass the gate\, as there is no parking after the gate and it will be some time before you can turn around. \n\n\n\nInstructor Tam Willey (they/them) is a certified forest therapy guide\, trainer\, mentor and teacher with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy and is the founder of “Toadstool Walks\,” a guiding practice based in Boston\, Massachusetts. \n\n\n\nAccessibility: The group will walk slowly off the main pathways on uneven and grassy terrain. DESCRIPTION:Lilacs are blooming in the Arboretum throughout the month of May\, not only on Lilac Sunday! Join our enthusiastic docents on a 45-minute amble up the hill from the ponds to see the lilacs\, enjoy their scents\, and hear the stories of the many different lilacs in our collection. \n\n\n\nThis tour covers around a quarter mile in distance on asphalt roadways. The slope of the roadway near the collection is moderate. \n\n\n\nTicket sales close 2 hours before the event. Visitors are welcome to walk up and join the tour. Registration is encouraged\, but not required. Parking can be limited\, so please give yourself extra time to arrive. \n\n\n\nWeather Policy: Tours will be canceled in cases of the following weather conditions: severe wind\, snow\, ice\, thunder or lightning events; temperatures over 90 degrees; and temperatures below 20 degrees. Tours may be canceled due to other weather events at the discretion of Arboretum staff. In the case of cancelation\, you will be contacted by Arboretum staff no later than 2 hours before the start of the event.
