Lawrence Mullings pays attention to the people, how they use and discover the Arboretum, and the many paths they explore once here—via art, dance, and theater. From a child’s chalk drawings left behind on Meadow Road to an aspiring air guitarist strumming within the 2018 Fog x Hill installation, Lawrence depicts some of the wonder that children find here. June 2019’s performance of Pride and Prejudice in the Leventritt Shrub and Vine Garden reveals how a play can capture not just the attention of a thousand-plus audience, but their eager immersion into another time and place—all without straying from our landscape’s stage and backdrop.
So take a walk with Lawrence Mullings, venture off the path, perhaps remembering what you love to do or experience when you are at the Arnold Arboretum. Enjoy again the unique gift that this landscape offers, and savor The Path Taken.
