The Many Moods of the Arboretum

A panorama of a grassy field with flowering trees in the background, curved back on itself to create a circular image.

Feb 23 - Jun 09, 2024

The Many Moods of the Arboretum showcases a series of digital photographs taken by photographer Fran Gardino across the Arnold Arboretum over the past 10 years. Captured as a sequence of still images and then stitched together into panoramas, these works evoke the full breadth of the landscape better than a single image ever could. This exhibition captures the beauty and majesty of the Arboretum and its trees through the cycling of days and seasons—a theme underscored in several square-format, “Little Planet” panoramic images that curve back on themselves to reflect the cycles of Earth itself.

Art shows are offered in-person at the Hunnewell Building. The Hunnewell Building at 125 Arborway in Boston is open 9:00am–4:00pm daily. The Visitor Center and exhibition space are open every day from 10:00am–4:00pm, except when booked for meetings or programs.
