Stoneroot Epistle

May 01 - Jun 25, 2022

Collage and Poetry in Conversation

by Joyce Swagerty and Daina Swagerty

Artists’ Talk, Regenerational Collaboration, Hunnewell Lecture Hall, Sunday, June 5th, 1:00–3:00pm

Stoneroot Epistle is the current exhibition in our Hunnewell Visitor Center. The unique book, Stoneroot Epistle, was born out of Joyce and Daina Swagerty’s desire to understand the connection between themselves and the natural world—what is shared and affirmed. This mother-daughter collaboration features vivid illustration and inspirational poems that tell a story of universal journey through the lens of an acorn.  However, the story is more than a picturesque travel journal of an acorn moving through seasons. Stoneroot Epistle embraces the complexities and layers of nature and human behavior. Daina’s artwork and Joyce’s poems use a variety of techniques and forms to distill their learning and communicate the essence of revelations along the way. Each collage presents a new opportunity for exploration and discovery.

Visit the newly reopened Hunnewell Visitor Center (open Friday through Monday, noon–4:00pm) to see select pages from this artistic exploration by artist Daina Swagerty and poet Joyce Swagerty.
