The Deland Award for Student Research
Due to a generous endowment established at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University by F. Stanton Deland, Jr., Harvard class of 1936, funds are available to support research by graduate and advanced undergraduate students working on the comparative biology of woody plants. Research may include developmental biology, physiology, genetics, reproductive biology, or ecology.
Eligibility and Conditions
While students not enrolled at Harvard may apply for research support, preference shall be given to students enrolled at Harvard and to students whose research makes use of the living collections of the Arnold Arboretum. Funds given in this award shall be used only for research expenses and may include living expenses during the time of the research. Funds shall not be used to substitute for departmental tuition or stipend. Individuals may apply for an award at any time, and the decision on the award will be made within two months of receipt of an application. Awards will ordinarily be limited to $5,000 or less.
Application Procedures
The application should contain a five page narrative with literature references describing the proposed research, a budget and justification of the proposed expenditures, the applicant’s resume the names and phone numbers of the applicant’s research advisors, and the names of any contacts at Harvard who might collaborate or facilitate the research.
