I am the editor of Arnoldia, the quarterly magazine of the Arnold Arboretum. Arnoldia features articles on a wide range of topics related to the Arboretum’s mission including botany, horticulture, ecology and conservation, plant exploration, and landscape history. I recruit authors and work with them to produce articles that help explain the complex and fascinating world of plant science in a manner that is accessible to readers with varied levels of interest, from casual nature observers to hard-core plant fanatics. I also work with a graphic designer to make sure Arnoldia is visually appealing as well as informative.

My education and career have been in the field of horticulture, with a special interest in woody plants. Prior to joining the Arboretum in 2008, I worked for the University of Minnesota for many years, first as a scientist in the woody plant research program and then in Extension, providing outreach in horticulture to the public, green industry, and Master Gardener volunteers. An interest in sharing my love of plants and providing science-based gardening information led to writing a gardening column in the Minneapolis StarTribune as well as articles for gardening magazines and Extension and green industry publications. I continue to keep a hand in horticulture outreach and education by teaching classes and leading tours for visitors and members here at the Arboretum.
