Over 35,000 people make their way to the Hunnewell Visitor Center each year, and thousands more call or email. My primary responsibility is to provide friendly, competent assistance to all of our audiences, from plant experts to casual visitors.
I moved to Jamaica Plain in 2004. As a long-time nature lover and nascent birder, I immediately fell in love with the Arnold Arboretum. In 2007, I trained as a docent and began giving guided tours of the landscape. I became a full-time visitor education assistant in 2008, and since then my love for the landscape and the institution has only deepened. In addition to being one of the smiling faces in the Visitor Center, I organize our public art exhibitions, help develop and run family activities, manage the Arboretum’s social media communications, lead landscape tours and bird walks, and generally champion the Arboretum and its mission.
I have taken courses through the Arboretum and the Harvard University Extension School in botany, tree identification, ecology, and urban gardening. When not working at the Arboretum, I can often be found wandering around the greenspaces of Jamaica Plain seeking avian life, or wandering around my kitchen seeking secret ingredients.
