As the manager of visitor education, I oversee programs and projects for casual Arboretum visitors. This includes management of the Visitor Center, special events, family activities, self-guided materials, art exhibitions, as well as visitor interactions with tour guides (Arboretum Docents) and “explainers” (Arboretum Interpreters). I’m the Arboretum’s contact for media inquiries, and I’ve also organized a three-season visitor study, created an interpretive master plan for the Arboretum, and assisted in implementing a comprehensive wayfinding system for visitors. I am assisted by four staff and more than 50 volunteer docents and interpreters.

I hope our programs enrich how visitors experience the Arboretum—enjoying its beauty and also digging deeper to see the Arboretum as a dynamic site for education, plant research, and global plant conservation. Through conversations, guided and self-guided interactions, we hope visitors will explore our rich history, discover a unique plant collection, and be fascinated by the inner workings of plants, the environment, and plant science.

Prior to joining the Arnold Arboretum, I served as Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s director of continuing education and, previously, as the manager of the BBG’s Community Horticulture Program.
