BA Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology and Biochemistry, University of Colorado-Boulder
Although most of my undergraduate classes and research focused on molecular biology, I changed direction slightly in 2004 when I began graduate studies in evolutionary biology. I still love investigating molecular and genetic mechanics, but as an evolutionary biologist I have the opportunity to do field research! Currently, I’m a “nearly finished” PhD candidate in Hopi Hoekstra’s lab. My general scientific interests revolve around linking genetic variation to specific phenotypic differences, and then determining the fitness consequences of having certain traits in the wild. For my thesis, I’ve been studying the ecology and genetic basis of instinctive burrowing behavior in deer mice. When I’m not tirelessly writing my dissertation, I also enjoy following Colorado sports, gourmet BBQs, and getting outside of the city whenever possible.
