Since joining the Arboretum in 2007, I’ve held a variety of positions and currently serve as development database specialist. My main responsibility is managing database integrity for the Arboretum’s development department, for which I also design and develop reports and provide application development support.
My background appears, at first glance, to be a bit eclectic. As an undergraduate, I studied infant development and animal behavior (specifically primatology), which led to a job at the Washington National Primate Research Center in Seattle. There I worked on research that examined the effects of HIV on perinatal development. I left in 2002 to join the Peace Corps. I spent the next two years working on a variety of development projects in Haiti, including helping to manage a tree nursery and setting up a rural computer school. After the program was evacuated due to political unrest, I returned to the US and moved to Arizona. I worked at Safari Club International as part of the fundraising auction team until my move to Massachusetts in 2007.
Outside of the Arboretum, I’m either working on a full-scale renovation of my new house or studying toward the completion of a master’s degree in information technology at the Harvard University Extension School.
