I am currently a Professor at the Mayora Research Station of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) in Malaga, Spain. My research focuses on genetic diversity, germplasm characterization, and conservation and reproductive biology in subtropical and temperate fruit tree species. I am particularly interested in basic studies of pollen-pistil interaction, fertilization, and early embryo development in these species using both histological and molecular tools. The phylogenetic situation of some species among the early divergent angiosperms (mainly cherimoya and avocado) is leading my attention toward the evolution of reproductive biology in primitive angiosperms.
