I currently serve as the Chief Information Officer for the Arnold Arboretum and Weld Hill Research and Administration Building. I lead a team focused on delivering the latest advancements in IT, such as virtualization, high performance and cloud computing, and database technology to support plant research and the public mission of the Arnold Arboretum.
Prior to joining Harvard, I served as Executive Director of Informatics and Knowledge Management at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research where I built and led the team that provisioned the IT services and systems for their new research headquarters. In previous roles, I built and managed IT organizations for small and large biotech and pharmaceutical companies, including Zycos, Wyeth, and Genetics Institute. I have a long standing interest in building systems used by research and learning organizations to enable and advance scholarly work. My career began as a bench scientist at MIT, where I soon discovered the critical link that IT can play in discovery and research and the importance of building highly effective IT teams. Outside of my corporate experience, I have served as CIO for a large public school system in New Hampshire and continue to collaborate with school CIOs to advance IT usage in learning and administration.
