Director Ned Friedman named Fellow of AAAS

On February 19, Arboretum director Ned Friedman as inducted as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The award, presented during the annual meeting of the AAAS in Washington, DC, honors Friedman’s important contributions to his research focus, the study of angiosperm evolutionary development biology. Friedman, who holds dual appointments as Arboretum director and as Arnold Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard, is among 15 Harvard faculty members named as AAAS Fellows for 2011.

The AAAS Council named 503 of its members as Fellows in December, recognizing their contributions to science and technology. At the February induction ceremony, new Fellows received a certificate and the Association’s blue and gold rosette as a symbol of their accomplishments. AAAS has named Fellows from among its membership since 1874.
