Woody Plants: Contemporary Botanical Art Exhibition
Hunnewell Building Lecture Hall
Arnold Arboretum
October 20–December 16, 2007
Reception with the artists
Sunday, October 21, 2:00–4:00pm
The unfurling of a leaf, flowering, or the ripening of fruit is meticulously detailed in this exhibition by the New England Society of Botanical Artists. Each piece reflects the dedication of local botanical artists to depict woody plants at fixed moments in time. The artists bring individual styles and fresh approaches to the centuries-old tradition of accurate botanical documentation. In keeping with the Arnold Arboretum’s mission of collecting, preserving, and displaying woody plants, these botanical artists have trained their eyes on the beauty of trees and shrubs.
The New England Society of Botanical Artists is a chapter of the American Society of Botanical Artists, which aims to promote public awareness of botanical art and encourages the continuing development of this tradition.
